Mac Catalina and Fusion Has Black Screen

When will this be fixed? I'm unable to use the software on my laptop and to continue production of files.

The screen turns black when Fusion launches and cannot open any files.

I tried to do a more thorough uninstall of VMware Fusion following these directions:

How to uninstall VMware Fusion - Quora

After install I did a fresh install of Windows 10 from a DVD image and it never asked for permission for Screen Recording.

I’ll be off work at 5:30. I’ll take a look at what you have uploaded when I’m off two of the screenshots didn’t upload.

Are you installing a .iso file or using a

CD?

Any time alway interesting to learn how things work and how to build and brake but more importantly  improve things.

Just a thought... does anyone know of a terminal command or a plist I could edit to give Fusion permission for Screen Recording?

Hey guys.

After hours of research this solution works for me:

1. Install VMWare.

2. Restart computer and go to Recovery Mode (hold CMD+R when computer starts until you see an Apple logo).

3. Go to top menu and choose Utilities and then Terminal.

4. Turn off SIP with this command:

     csrutil disable

5. Go to top menu and choose Apple Logo and the Restart.

6. After macOS starts normally open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app and paste this commands:

     tccutil reset All com.vmware.fusion

     sudo sqlite3 "/Library/Application Support/com.apple.TCC/TCC.db" 'insert into access values ("kTCCServiceScreenCapture", "com.vmware.fusion", 0, 1, 1, "", "", "", "UNUSED", "", 0,1565595574)'

     sudo sqlite3 "/Library/Application Support/com.apple.TCC/TCC.db" 'insert into access values ("kTCCServiceListenEvent", "com.vmware.fusion", 0, 1, 1, "", "", "", "UNUSED", "", 0,1565595574)'

     sudo sqlite3 "/Library/Application Support/com.apple.TCC/TCC.db" 'insert into access values ("kTCCServicePostEvent", "com.vmware.fusion", 0, 1, 1, "", "", "", "UNUSED", "", 0,1565595574)'

7. Go to Recovery Mode (hold CMD+R when computer starts until you see an Apple logo).

8. Go to top menu and choose Utilities and then Terminal.

9. Turn on SIP with this command:

     csrutil enable

10. Restart.

VMWare should works fine now Smiley Happy

Thanks so much for this ProjectFlameX! I was finally able to get the screen recording privacy setting enabled. Unfortunately, even with the screen recording setting enabled I'm still getting the black screen on my virtual machines. Any ideas on what else I can do? Happens with both VMware fusion 11 and 10. Thanks so much!

I have been trying to fix this as well and unfortunately none of the steps in this thread helped.

After switching to a UEFI bios, as opposed to Legacy BIOS, for my Linux VM's, the issue went away.

Hope this helps someone.

So I had this issue as well, on 10.15 Beta (19A536g) and Fusion 11.1.1, Fusion never showed up Privacy > Screen Recording... Downgraded to Fusion 11.1.0 and the first time I booted a VM it prompted me to allow it in Screen Recording. Problem solved. I then upgraded to 11.1.1 and it still works.

Running 11.1.1 and a windows 10 VM on the latest Catalina developer beta - WM worked fine under High Sierra, bu I also have the black screen and no option in the Screen Recording window

VMWARE - what is happening with an update for this?

Is the presence of "screen recording" MacOS version dependent? For example, I don't see it under MacOS 10.13, but the examples posted look more like MacOS 10.14

That did the trick and a while lot easier than recovery mode, run a bunch of commands, etc. Hopefully VMware will fix. Thank you for taking the time to document your success and helping others!
