Unable to take quiesced snapshot

Hi everybody,

I've a probelm when I try to take a quiesced snapshot on one virtual machine.

the error is:

An error occurred while taking a snapshot: Failed to quiesce the virtual machine.

An error occurred while saving the snapshot: Failed to quiesce the virtual machine

scenario:

vsphere 6.5

VM OS: windows server 2012 r2

vmtools version: 10.1.7

I detect that when my backup is failed, netbackup use the quiesce mode to take the snap.

The snapshot failed since netbackup and if I take it directly on vcenter when I check the quiesced mode.

I tried that:

     - reinstall vmtools

     - try the backup without vmtools (in others VM this works, how netbackup don't detect vmtools can do a normal snapshot.)

     - reinstall without VSS module.

     - the service "vmware service provide" is stopped.

     - I follow this trobleshooting: VMware Knowledge Base

     - starting VSS services.

     - starting Virtual Disk service

I've read this post, Unable to take quiesced snapshot but I can't find the solution there.

I've restored the vm to the last healthy backup, and the error persist.

do you have any idea about it?

thank you very much.

hi everybody,

after trying differents troubleshooting, I found the solution.

I update the vmtools to the last version (10.3.5) and after y disable the "vmware snashot service provider" now the quiesced snapshot works and my backup also.

Regards,

Welcome to the Community,

Do you have enough free disk space on the datastore on which the VM is stored?

Do you have sufficient free disk space on each of the guest operating system's drives?

Please run vssadmin list writers after a failed snapshot, to see whether one (and which one) of the writers shows an error.

To ensure it's not an issue with one of the guest's system files, consider to run sfc /scannow from an elevated command line (i.e. "Run as Administrator").

hi André,

I have enough free disk space on the datastore and on the VM.

the vss services is stoped, I dont have configurated vss in this server, but I started and Ran vssadmin list writers and didn't show any error, Try snapshot with the service started and dont work.

I've tried sfc scannow, and don't show errors.

thanks.

AFAIK this makes it a non quiesced snapshot again.
