Workstation Player USB 3.0 unable to select on the controller

G'day all,

I have an enterprise license for VMWare Workstation Player 15 and have installed 15.1.0.  Host and guest are both Win10 Pro.  Host can connect to my USB 3.0 and 3.1 devices without issue.  When I add a USB controller in the settings for a guest, it only allows me to select USB 1.1 or USB 2.0.  There's no option to select USB 3.0 (or USB 3.1).

Does anybody know what I need to do to allow a USB 3.0 selection?

I believe the VM guest may have been created using Virtualbox, as I had the IT department (I look after the operational technology - OT) create and export the VM for me.  I then imported from an OVF file.

What can be done?

Cheers,

Owen

The virtual hardware version must be high enough for support of USB 3.0.  Check the version / Workstation compatibility setting.  Note that if you need to change this, the guest OS must be shut down, not just suspended.

Thanks for your reply.  Does the below image depict where you would expect to set the virtual hardware version?  If so, this is where I am unable to select 3.0.  Please note that a second VM on the same host is able to select USB 3.0.  The second image is WIn7 and was created some time ago in VMWare Workstation Pro 11.

If I'm not looking in the correct place, could you please assist me in finding where the correct spot to look would be.

Cheers, Owen
