Installing VCSA: Error message with missing info

I've got a couple of ESXi 6.0 hosts that have, for various reasons, been without a vCenter for a while. I'm trying to remedy that by installing the 6.5 VCSA from the UI Installer (with the intent of upgrading the hosts in the near future). Phase 1 went without a hitch, but after filling all the phase 2 information in and hitting "Finish" (and Ok to the subsequent "you won't be able to stop this" warning), I get the following unhelpful message and nothing happens:

I've looked at the logs, and there isn't anything particularly helpful. Is this error-message-without-an-error-message thing known, and is there anything else I can do to get more info on what the problem is?

It's not easy to help without any details.

Anyway, one common issue is that DNS has not been configured as required. Did you create a DNS entry (Forward, and Reverse) for the vCSA?

There may be many reasons as the cause of your problem. please inform more details form error logs, but also note this, many times it's related to the FQDN / IP address of System Name of VC/PSC. I think you should consider its DNS lookup in first boot step of installation.
