You successfully created a backup file of the vcenter server appliance.
You need to use a backup solution (Veeam for example). vCSA backup from VAMI it's possible only from vCenter 6.5.
Hi,
veeam there is also the free version and that's fine.

Hi,
you need to enter the vcenter appliance by putting the port: 5480 (https: // appliance-IP-address-or-FQDN: 5480) at the bottom. This allows you to enter the vcenter configuration and there is also the backup button.
On vcsa 6.0 it is not possible, this feature was added starting with 6.5
I advise you to follow this veeam guide made for the vcenter backup.
KB2328: How to Backup vCenter Server Appliance
Hi
You can upgrade your vCenter without any problem but if you concern about it, consider each of following methods as the backup solution:
1. use Virtualization Backup solutions like VEEAM Backup & Replication, VMware Data Protection, Symantec Backup Exec or any other backup system that does support the vSphere environment
2. Try this: /usr/local/bin/vCSA-Backup.sh in a shell or SSH access to the vCenter server. (maybe you need chmod command to change file permission in that folder)
3. Generate a Full Clone of your VCSA VM as you said or at least copy all of its VMDKs
4. vCenter Backup option in management web interface of vCenter Server (https://vcsa_fqdn:5480) have a Backup solutions but it's a method for using in version 6.5 and also higher version (support FTP, SCP, HTTPS and so on. also some protocols have been add in vSphere 6.7 U2)
