GuestRpcSendTimedOut: message to toolbox-dnd timed out.

Hello folks,

I have a 64-bit Core i5 PC with Windows 7.  I have VMware Player 6.0.0 and installed Ubuntu desktop 12.04.3.  Everything was working fine in the virtual Ubuntu machine.  The virtual machine was then shutdown, and the PC was shutdown too.  When boot up PC again and play the virtual machine, it stuck on the Ubuntu startup screen with the dots in red color.  Looking at the log file the last line is "vmx| I120: GuestRpcSendTimedOut: message to toolbox-dnd timed out."  It just stuck there.  Any clue as to how to resolve this issue?

I have done the same setup in 2 other laptops (a Lenovo and a Toshiba) also with Windows 7 and never encountered such issue.  This is a new laptop I just bought (HP EliteBook Folio 9470m).

The full vmware.log file is attached.

Thanks

Henry

I have further narrowed down the problem.  I'm setting up Ubuntu 12.04 LTS to build Android source.  Right after Ubuntu is installed, here are the ONLY steps done via command line:

$ sudo apt-get update

$ sudo apt-get install libglapi-mesa:i386

$ sudo apt-get install git gnupg flex bison gperf build-essential zip curl libc6-dev libncurses5-dev:i386 x11proto-core-dev libx11-dev:i386 libreadline6-dev:i386 libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 libgl1-mesa-dev g++-multilib mingw32 tofrodos python-markdown libxml2-utils xsltproc zlib1g-dev:i386

The last message from sudo apt-get was:

ldconfig deferred processing now taking place

At this point, a proper shutdown is performed to Ubuntu.  Then trying to play this virtual machine again will fail.  It stuck at the Ubuntu screen with the 5 red dots.

Anyone else encountered such problem or know how to fix this?

Thanks

I have somewhat similar questions and still looking for a solution.

My VMWare workstation 12 Pro runs on a Windows 10 64 bit host.

Has been running without problems for years.

Recently, without any warning and in a totally random way it hands up.

As the attached vmware.log shows, the last entry there is:

2019-08-02T15:48:39.813-04:00| vmx| I125: GuestRpcSendTimedOut: message to toolbox-dnd timed out.

2019-08-02T15:48:56.332-04:00| vmx| I125: GuestRpcSendTimedOut: message to toolbox-dnd timed out.

When I try to re-install Tools, the process is started

2019-08-02T16:01:19.031-04:00| vmx| I125: TOOLS INSTALL entering BEGINNING state.

2019-08-02T16:01:19.031-04:00| vmx| I125: ToolsISO: open of C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Player\isoimages_manifest.txt.sig failed: Could not find the file

...

but quickly stops with the same message

2019-08-02T16:01:19.056-04:00| vmx| I125: CDROM:  initial physical CDROM state is 1 (sense)

2019-08-02T16:02:19.062-04:00| vmx| I125: GuestRpcSendTimedOut: message to toolbox-dnd timed out.

The VM can't be shut down or suspended. Even if the instance of VMWare Workstation / Player is killed,
some  of the related processes keep running and cannot be stopped. The only solution remaining is to reboot the host.

Could someone please HELP ?
