Ensure that the disks:

1. Have no pre-existing partitions on them

2. Are detected as Local devices (and mark them as Local if not) &

3. Are marked as Flash devices (if Flash and not detected as such).

Please validate that you have checked there are no partitions:

Host > Configure > Storage devices > Select device > Scroll down in the Device Details Properties info to 'Partition Details' Primary Partitions should be 0 for this to be an eligble device for claiming by vSAN.

This can also be checked via CLI with vdq -q command or by checking for partitions on the devices in /dev/disks (e.g. it will be naa.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:1 naa.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:2 if there are pre-existing vSAN partitions).

If they have partitions on them and you are POSITIVE you don't needs whatever data is/was on the devices then remove the partitions:

Remove Partition From Devices

2. Mark Devices as Local

3. Mark Devices as Flash
