Copy Between VM's Issue

Hi,

I'm running Fusion 8.5.10 for Mac. Whenever I attempt to copy between one VM to another I get the rainbow wheel in Fusion for around 2-3minutes. The VM's themselves still function. In fact i can see see graphic activity on both.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Hi,

I tend to see lockups when copying files to the main root of a disk.

Eg.

Copy a file to D:\ --> lockup

Copy a file to D:\Temp\ ==> works fine

My solution for that is to leave the root folder alone, but it of course makes little sense.

Could it be that this is your issue too?

If not provide more details on how you "copy files between VMs".

Are you using drag and drop?

Are those big files?

Do you have a lot of free space on your Windows Temp folder? (DnD files will first copy to that location)

What OS are your VMs even, are they Windows or something else, if Windows, then what version of Windows?

Wila,

I'm not actually copying files between the VM's. Simply copying text causes Fusion to lock up. Scenario plays out like this.

In VM1 i highlight some text and copy it. I change Fusion windows to VM2. Before I can even do anything, Fusion freezes and I get the Mac rainbow wheel for around 1-3 minutes. After Fusion recovers I can actually paste the data in VM2, but 90% of the time this happens is purely by accident. I might have some data in the clipboard from VM1 and change to VM2 for some other reason and it freezes.

Hi,

Interesting.

Most likely the copy clipboard action is not the part that is triggering the lockup.

If you mention it like that then it sounds to me that it is likely that your host is over provisioned.

Eg.

- either the VM is swapping

- or not enough CPU is available immediately to service the other guest on activating it

- or not enough free RAM is available immediately

- or.. another insufficient host resources availability issue

edit: oh and never discount an antivirus product to be able to trigger something like this.
