Hi,
I am a Mac user and I have VMWare Fusion 8.5.10 installed with Windows 7 running on it.
I have an Italian Mac Magic Keyboard 2 and everything is fine with it when I physically type keys, both in the virtual machine and in the Mac environment.
Problems start when I use Mac Dictation in the virtual machine. Special characters are not typed correctly when I dictate inside the virtual machine (everything is fine when I dictate in the Mac environment). For instance:
- I get à instead of ' (apostrophe)
- I get _ instead of ?
- No words with accents are written (and unfortunately there are quite a number of words with accents in Italian)
Everything works just fine instead if I press the corresponding keys on my keyboard (I get ' if I press ', I get ? if I press ?, etc.). It's as if dictation inside my virtual machine was associated with a different keyboard layout, for instance a Spanish layout or something else.
I have been looking for a solution for months, but to no effect:
- The language displayed on the bottom right corner of Windows 7 is correctly IT for Italian. If I switch it to EN (English), I get the opposite problem: dictation in Italian finally works well (I get ? when I say the Italian for "question mark"), but physical typing is wrong (I get à instead of ', etc.).
- I had a look at VMware Fusion settings / Keybord and Mouse. I have 3 different profiles:
1) Mac profile - Specific Language shows "Disabled", no idea about how to enable it. This means Language Specific Key Mapping is greyed out - I'm not sure though this may help
2) Default profile - Specific Language is enabled, Language Specific Key Mapping is checked. However, I cannot see "Italian" or a Italian flag anywhere - here too, I'm not sure there should be some explicit reference to the language in question
3) Windows 7 profile - same as Default profile
The problem with special characters and dictation is still there, regardless of the profile I use.
Any help would be much appreciated. This problem is driving me crazy. Thank you!
Sorry to see no replies to my question - that's what I feared.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. I have installed Parallels instead of VMware Fusion and everything now works just fine with Mac Dictation. Maybe this may help other people stuck with the same problem...
