esxtop non responsive / slow refresh

Hi,

Just came across a problem on a Dell server where opening esxtop via SSH or via DCUI takes about a min or two to open. Once values are populated on the screen, the refreshes are extremely slow. Changing views in esxtop also takes about a min to switch. The problem can be reproduced with all VMs in the Running or Shutdown state. There is a mix of iSCSI and NFS datastores, but the same datastores are presented to other hosts and I am unable to reproduce the problem with esxtop on other hosts in the same cluster.

Using VMware ESXi 6.0 U3 Dell Version: A14, Build# 10719132

Wondering if anyone else has run in to this issue before?

Thank you

I never saw anything like that but, a few things come to my mind.

Network: Are you accessing from a saturated network?

Disk: Is the ESXi installed in a USB or a disk with intensive use?

Hi dbalcaraz,

I suspected the network or putty to be the problem, but seeing the same result in DCUI as over the wire was a confirmation that the network is not the problem. ESXi is on an SD card and syslogs are redirected to a high performance LUN.

cpuidMask was carried over from an older version of the esxi. removing all cpuidMask values from /etc/vmware/config corrected the problem with esxtop
