A question about upgrading ESXi 6.5 to 6.7.

Hello.

For upgrade ESXi 6.5 to 6.7 I must put the host in the maintenance mode, in this mode, my VMS disconnected? Any method to upgrade ESXi without shutdown the VMs?

Thank you.

Maintenance mode requires all VMs are powered off. No, there is no way to upgrade ESXi without taking the VMs down, other than to move them to another host.

The Host will need to reboot no matter what. Do you have a single ESXi Host only or a cluster of Hosts where VMs can be migrated?

Yes, first you need to upgrade the vCenter & PSC to the 6.7 version and then use the update manager to upgrading the hosts.

use cases are to migrate the VMs to another cluster host and upgrade the ESXi but since you have another node in cluster you have to power off all the VMS and run the upgrade.

also, make sure you good backup of VMs

In vCenter, I have a list of VMs and groups. After the vCenter upgrade, this list must be recreate?

No need to create them again. vCenter Server will keep the list of managed objects include all hosts and VMs. Even you migrate from an windows-based to an appliance-based vCenter Server, no need to worry about it. It's just important to upgrade the vCenter server before ESXi hosts and any other solutions .... After the upgrade process of vCenter has been done successfully you can upgrade the host by the ESXCLI or use vCenter Update Manager (VUM)
