Hi,

Probably an update to macOS Mojave then that killed your VMware Fusion?

VMware Fusion 8.x isn't supported on Mojave, only VMware Fusion 11.

FWIW, Ubuntu 18 is also newer than Fusion 8.x and isn''t supported either.

Windows XP should work, if you ran VMware Fusion 8.x macOS Sierra.

Also note that VMware Fusion 8.x has a few known unfixed security issues.

With all that out of the way..."stuck on logon screen" ... is that a "it is booting fine, but I cannot access the VM with either mouse or keyboard?"

If so then you're likely bumping into a security protection from macOS Mojave and you will have to give VMware Fusion access.
