vcenter installation issue

We have 3 ESXI 6.5 hosts running a few VM's on them.

Now we wanted to deploy a vcenter to manage our esxi hosts and their machines. We have bought a vcenter licese too.

We are trying to install VMware-VCSA-all-6.7.0 iso on a virtual machine which is setup on one of the virtual machine.

Its not booting up from there. do we need to install something else before we install vcenter ?

When i setup the virtual machine i choose Guest OS family as linux and Guest OS version as Photon.

am i doing this right? or vcenter will be installed on a separate machine ?

You need to run the installer from the ISO. It creates the VCSA as a VM .

Check Step-by-Step: Deploy vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) 6.5 -

You need to mount the ISO to one of the machine (desktop or server) and execute the setup. This will create the new appliance on ESXi host and once setup completed you need to access the vCenter server using the web url and add the hosts in vCenter server.

see the attachment.

Mount the ISO on your desktop.  Right click on installer.exe and choose Run as administrator

the installer.exe is in \vcsa-ui-installer\win32\

It should be pretty straight forward from there.

Thank you folks.

The installation stopped at 80%

I have 80 & 443 ports opened already do i need other ports to be opened ?

NTP is running on esxi host so that should be OK. Everything else seems OK to me.

Thank you

If you are having installation difficulties after launching the installer wizard as directed by others, please post screenshots of your installation steps displaying their values. It is likely you are supplying incorrect data somewhere along the line.

We need to see your screenshots that hold the configuration information before you get to that first screenshot.

Hi nnoc ,

Yes , you can installed the VC by using ISO format (DVD-ROM image file) or a .zip (compressed) file.

use this link to download the file  https://www.vmware.com/download/

Just consists below steps while Installing vCenter Server :

  1. Prepare for installation.
  2. Install vCenter Server.
  3. Install additional components.
  4. Install vSphere Client.
  5. Configure vCenter

Check the pre-requisites.

https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.5/com.vmware.vsphere.install.doc/GUID-8F62E118-4805-4B0A...

How do you know installation stopped at 80% ? Was there any error ?

It is expected for the installation to take time after 80% as it does the rpm installation and all services needs to start for the installation to succeed.

Can you check /var/log/firstboot/firstbootInfrastructure.log and post that file here also.

Thank you.

There was no error but it stopped at 80% i waited for almost 3 hours. I can see the machine has been setup once i login to https://xx.xx.com:5480 i started the setup

after 2% installation i got an error something related to Active directory service not running. i went to the ESXI host and started the AD service. I re-tried but failed again.

I see this page now. looks like i have to delete and setup a new machine
