locked CD-ROM when installing VMWare Tools

Guest is linuxCNC (a Debian variant); Workstation Player 15.1  When I try to install VMWare Tools Player->Manage->Install VMWare Tools... I get a complaint about locked CD-ROM door.  Some instructions say to right click the CD-ROM icon and choose Eject.  My only choices are Disconnect and Settings...  I see no Eject option.

Hi,

Eject is typically done from within the guest OS.

Disconnect is the best you can use and is similar to eject as in that it will remove the CD from the drive.

edit: to clarify, once your CD is disconnected you can connect the install vmware tools virtual CD. You're not running your linux OS from a virtual CD I hope as then you cannot do that.

https://www.debiantutorials.com/how-to-install-open-vm-tools-open-virtual-machine-tools/  says to use open-vm-tools but apt-get install open-vm-tools cannot find some archives.

How to Install VMware Tools - dummies  says to Manage->Install VMWare Tools, but that has the same problem.  Even after disconnect on the CD-ROM icon.

There are so many places that tell how to do this, and none work.

apt-get install open-vm-tools gives complaints (attached).  Is there some way to get apt-get to search somewhere that works?

I can no longer find the mount instructions.

The debian wheezy repository has been archived for a long time.

As a result it is not surprising that your VMware Tools install does not work as your Linux is End Of Life and should be considered unsafe to use.
