ESXi 6.7 stuck on initializing scheduler

I restarted my ESXi vSphere 6.7 (update 2) server to add another SSD but it is now stuck on initializing scheduler. The only answer to this problem I have found online suggests disabling USB legacy boot. I have done this but no luck. I have also tried booting with no USB‘s and removed the new drive. Is my install screwed because I installed ESXi with legacy booting enabled?

Hi,

Welcome to VMTN. Smiley Happy

Why did you reboot ESXi just to add SSD drive on server ? Normally, HDD/SDD are hot add components now which means, they can be added/removed on the fly.

Where is the ESXi installed on server? On SD card or HDD or booting via SAN ?

Try this if upgraded to the new version recently, else, still give it a try.

Have you tried to remove installed SSD and to start ESXi?

Hey, thank you!

This particular box is actually a desktop computer for a basic homelab setup so I haven‘t bothered with hot-swappable drives.

ESXi is installed on an SSD. I’m planning on moving it to a USB soon for easier recovery and to free up another drive.

I have tried rolling back but this was a fairly new installation so there is nothing in my list of options.

Just realised my BIOS is out of date so I updated that. I’ll call it a day with this setup and move over to USB.
