What is VMware's plan to fix the Workstation Pro 15 Linux kernel 5 problem?

Hi,

I'd like to know what the plan is from VMware to fix the VMware Workstation Pro 15 issue that it won't compile some network related stuff during install on a Linux box using the Linux kernel 5.0 and above?

I know that there are various workarounds available on the Internet that work and circumvent the issue but I'd really like to know the strategy from VMware how to fix this issue.

I'm sure the VMware official answer is "Wait until we have a QA'd version of our product for your host OS/version before updating to an unSupported host OS" - same as it has been for the past 15+ years.

VMware Workstation Pro 15.1 on Linux host now supports the Linux kernel v5 code stream.

There is nothing like "Linux kernel v5 code stream". And while 15.1.0 modules build against 5.0 kernel, they don't build against 5.1 which you can already find e.g. in openSUSE Tumbleweed.

Of course, VMware doesn't speak in terms of kernel version, for them it's a list of "supported host OS" which is of limited use as it only covers few selected distributions.
