I have run VMWare Fusion Professional Version 11.1.0 (13668589) to use Window10 as a virtual machine in my MacBook.

I have used it without any problem over three months, but suddenly, I got error message like title and I can't load Window 10 in VWWare.

I don't have any idea how to I fix the problem.

Searching to fix the problem in communities of VMWare is not helpful because I can't find similar problems like me.

In Virtual Machines folder, there is only 'Window 10 x64' file.

Is there any suggestions?

Your next job is to realize that that file is not a file but a directory.
Next open it and tell us about the content.

I forgot to add extension of my file.

The file I mentioned is named 'Windows 10 x64.vmwarevm"

It's the only file in Virtual Machines folder.

Hi,

In Finder, select that one file (which really is a file, we tend to refer to it as a bundle).

Now right click (or control+click) and select "Show Package Contents" and you'll see the files in your virtual machine bundle.

Provide the file that Continuum is asking for via the Attach link at the bottom right of the reply window.

Create a backup of the complete directory - just in case ...

Then copy Virtual Disk-s014.vmdk to Virtual Disk-s003.vmdk.
This will replace a corrupt area with 5gb of data with blanks.

The next start of the VM will show if the damage is too bad - in worst case it should still be good enough to extract your data.
If that is not good enough ask Andre Prett (a.p.) he may be able to help further.

"The operation on file "..vmdk" failed." is more likely related to a host issue. I'm not a MAC user, but I think MacOS contains a utility to check the disk drive for hardware, and/or logical errors.

Dear Continuum,

I did as you suggestion (backup -> copy Virtual Disk-s014.vmdk to Virtual Disk-s003.vmdk), but still in problem.

When I run VMWare after copy file, Window says, "Preparing for automatic recovery", and then I got a blue screen with words: "Auto Recovery was unable to recover your PC".

There were two options in the screen: 'shutdown system' and 'advanced option'.

In advanced option, I can choose one of the four options including 'continue', 'device usage', 'problem solving', and 'shutdown'.

Unfortunately, any option can run Window in a normal way.

I can't anything with it and this make me frustrated.

Do I have to reinstall Window in VMWare?

Dear a.p.

The reason I use VMWare is that there's some programs not run properly in MAC OS.

So I used VMware when I need to run the programs in Window occasionally, not frequently.

It means that usual usage of MAC have no problem.

But as your suggestion, I also have run 'dist utility' app to check my hardware, no problems were observed.

Unfortunately you seem to have one vmware.log only - which does not have any details on why the file s003.vmdk was corrupted.
It would have helped to see a log file which reports the error you saw in the GUI.

At the moment yourr best option is to extract the useful data from this VM by adding the corrupted vmdk to another Windows VM.

Since there don't seem to be issues issues with the hardware, and the backup worked, it may be worth taking a look at the .vmdk file's metadata.

To determine the size of the metadata please run

dd if="Virtual Disk-s003.vmdk" of=header-s003.bin bs=1536 count=1

and attach the resulting header-s003.bin file to a reply post.
