Core per Socket relationship with physical Core or physical Socket

Please refer for attached Image: Capture.PNG

What is showing VM Socket here? Is it the same socket showing in ESXi Socket?

What’s the best practice to select Cores per socket?

What’s the performance impact if select Cores per socket: 1 or 2 or 4 or 8 and when we should consider 1 or 2 or 4 or 8?

For 32 or 64 GB RAM, what we would consider Cores per Socket to consider NUMA Boundary?

ESXi physical Cores per Socket = 18

VM socket is not the same as ESXi socket. The first is a virtual construct and the second is a physical CPU socket.

AFAIK there is no performance impact between using virtual cores or virtual sockets. But NUMA can play a role in this. For details about NUMA check out this article: Decoupling of Cores per Socket from Virtual NUMA Topology in vSphere 6.5 - frankdenneman.nl
