Howdy,

i created 1 Disk with Multiwrite.

I booted both vm's and i can access the disk on both sides and can write on it.

The Problem i have is:

There is no realtime syncing. if i write something on vm1 i can't see it on vm2. after i reboot vm2 i can see the new folder.

thanks alot, adrian

What OS are you using and what file system are you putting on this shared disk?

YOU CANNOT USE MULTI-WRITER WITH NTFS

Stop what you're doing and disable that functionality or else you will cause data corruption.

Any experienced ESXi user would classify what you are trying to do as sabotage. It will destroy the NTFS filesystem.
It would really help us to understand what made you think that using multiwrite for VMDKs is a good idea.
Do you have any links to blogs or knowledgebase articles that recommend to use multiwrite option ?
Then we could try to fix the problem at the place where it started: poorly written blogs or bad documentation.

Hi,

Here the Link https://theitbros.com/share-disk-between-vms-on-vmware-esxi/

There i cant see any informations about NTFS

We have not enough Diskspace left for a Fileservermigration, so we looked out for this solution.

The blog should explain this part better:

> The Multi-Writer option ensures that a cluster-enabled application (Oracle RAC, Microsoft MSCS)

> when writing from two or more virtual machines doesn’t cause data loss.
The missing part should be:

> The Multi-Writer option ensures that a cluster-enabled application (Oracle RAC, Microsoft MSCS)

> when writing from two or more virtual machines doesn’t cause data loss.

> The Multi-Writer option can only be used by cluster-enabled applications (Oracle RAC, Microsoft MSCS)
> Never use this feature for non cluster-enabled application as this will cause severe damage of the guest filesystem.

Yes, you do. Multi-writer never was a solution to data migration.
