It does not auto-start VM

Dear, I am new to the community, I am having problems with the auto start of the VMs after an electric cut for example. I do not have alerts in the Vcenter console that warns of the problem.

Welcome to the Community,

what issues do you see? Is it about the message that's in your screenshot (just above the column headers), that Autostart is disabled for HA clusters?

It looks like you don't have a Cluster configured... That means you only have hosts in your vCenter inventory. If you want to use any cluster feature like DRS or HA you must create a cluster first. Right-click on your datacenter and choose New cluster... Then add your hosts to the cluster.

I have a different view of the OPs question. I read it as saying he wants his hosts to boot and automatically start VMs after a power-cut has occurred and power is restored. In this case clustering his hosts will not help him, as this would disable the "VM Startup/Shutdown" options. HA would only help if he had hosts in a cluster that are on different/independent sources of power, shared storage and all this on a suitable network.

Agreed.

  • a) No cluster: OP can use "VM Startup/Shutdown" - which will only occur when he boots the server back up.
  • b) Cluster: Use of VM restart priorities / VM overrides. HA will automatically restart the VMs according to priorities on other servers.

You're right. If you add a host to a cluster the VM Startup/Shutdown options are disabled. I was referring to the image where the OP stated that the cluster config was empty. That was correct because there was no cluster created.

Dear,

1)Hi Jburen, sorry if my problem was explained wrong.

2)Stephen/vXav, your answer is correct, I do not intend to configure Cluster / HA in my Vcenter; I only need that from my Vcenter to be able to start / turn off automatically my VMs, when there is a power cut and when it is restable.

As I mention and attach my configuration in the image, make the changes that always worked for me to start the vm when an electric power cut

P.D:sorry for my bad english

Select a host in the "Navigator".

Right-click > Edit

This should bring up the host configuration tab.

On the left side look for "Virtual Machines > VM Startup/Shutdown".

Is that what you're looking for?

Hi Stephen,

I attached the screen that loads when I opened the discussion, I have everything configured to start automatically, but lately I have cut off the power and has not started automatically.

I'm not sure I'm clear on what you are trying to achieve here.

If you expect the VMs to restart in this order when you pull the plug on the server it won't work. This startup "policy" will be applied when the server (esxi) boots up.

If you want the VMs to restart automatically on another server you will want to use HA.

He has been clear:

He wants VMs to start when server power is applied.

The check box "System infuence" is ticked to allow automatic start?

Hi vXav, is how Stephen mentions, what I need is for the vm to start when there is an electric power cut and the autonomy of the UPS is finished.

Hi Stephen, I attach the image of my configuration, where it is visualized that I have activated the box "System infuence".

Question: can you check the log where the post-power cut events are recorded?
