File type association with Horizon Client

Hi All,

So I am publishing apps through Application Pools and I am just wondering why some apps can be associated with horizon published file types on a user’s PC (it seems like all office products allow you to pick) but the other ones don’t.  Also, how can you associate a particular horizon app to a file type?

Thanks

file extension for which you are trying to set the association is that application published on the RDSH host ? ex: If you are trying to open .docx file, then Microsoft Word should be published as an app in the RDSH host. Then on the client you need to follow the below steps:

  • Right Clicked on "file.docx" and select "Open with" from the menu (Notice there are no apps associated with this file type)
  • On the Desktop, launch Horizon View Client
  • Connected with your username and password.
  • Right Clicked on the file.docx file
  • Notice that the RDSH Published Microsoft Word app comes up as an application you can associate with the docx file type.

Similarly, you need to follow this for others application extensions that you are trying to associate with.

Thanks for the response.

That behavior is exactly what I see for any Microsoft and Adobe products.  I don’t see this for any other file types.  For instance jpegs only see the local chrome and IE.  Text files only see local software.  Same thing for a bunch of GIS files that I need.  Any ideas or do you not have this behavior?

So it turns out you need to have the application installed locally and then you can associate it with the RDS installed version.
