"Cloning" is a feature of the vCenter and it makes a copy of a existing VM or Template. During this operation there can be 2 additions steps which are "orchestrated"
- Customization.... think about Windows unantended XML (Trigger a sysprep, change Administrator password, change network settings, AD Join,)
- HW changes
After the cloning is finished you get a another VM which is independent from the source.
There is something like LinkedClones which is way less independent of course.
