Windows 2000 VMWare Tools installation problem

Hello.

Recently I tried to install VMWare Tools on my Windows 2000 Professional. When I select "Install VMWare Tools" from Manage menu, it starts initializing, but, after initialization, it gives me the following error: "Setup was unable to upgrade the Windows Installer".

I'm using VMWare Workstation 15 Player.

Can anyone help me?

I'm sorry but the 20 years was a little joke because Windows 2000 is very old. But another thing you could try is to upgrade the Windows Installer inside the guest OS: Download Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2) from Official Microsoft Download Center

It could be that you are trying to install a version of VMware tools that is too new... Try an older version of like 20 years ago 😉

I don't know where to get 20-year old VMWare Tools... Maybe that's a dumb question, but I'm just new to VMWare...

Well, that was something better. I upgraded to Windows 2000 SP4, but now I have the following error:

Microsoft Runtime DLLs cannot be installed on this OS. Please see Microsoft KB835732 for details.

Well, thank you. I manually installed Windows 2000 SP3, upgraded Windows Installer, did some search on the net, installed some patches, and VMWare Tools finally installed.
