Unable to add the second vCenter to collector

Good day,

We are unable to add the second vCenter to our collector that was deployed getting an "Couldn't create collection task to test endpoint. -> java.lang.RuntimeException: Couldn't login the client. -> Couldn't login the client. -> General failure. -> Internal server error" . Do we need a new collector for each vCenter? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello Mandeep,

As vCenter is configured with Customer SSO, enabled SSO configuration on Skyline and provided the required details to configure the second vCenter with Skyline.

Hello Mandeep,

Welcome to VMware communities

As per the error message, this issue could have occurred for multiple reasons. Please find the action plan mentioned below:

  1. Make sure you are able to login to vCenter server using the user which you are using for vCenter registration on skyline.
  2. If the vCenter is configurred with external PSC, enable "Use Custom SSO Configuration"
  3. Check if you are able to connect to vCenter from skyline using the below command:
    #curl -v telnet//<ip address/fqdn> <7444>
  4. Make sure the vCenter and Skyline are having the same time / timezone

You can configure multiple vCenter servers on one Skyline collector, only if the vCenter is geographically located in a different location we would recommend you to use a new Skyline Collector.

Hello Ashwin,

I have followed the action plan below

  1. Make sure you are able to login to vCenter server using the user which you are using for vCenter registration on skyline. --> Can login with read only account without any issues to vCenter server.
  2. If the vCenter is configurred with external PSC, enable "Use Custom SSO Configuration" --> We are not using external PSC
  3. Check if you are able to connect to vCenter from skyline using the below command: --> Test was successful for the vCenter was able to connect from the skyline to vCenter server.
    #curl -v telnet//<ip address/fqdn> <7444>
  4. Make sure the vCenter and Skyline are having the same time / timezone --> they are all on the same time zone Canada/MST

But the issue remains we are still getting the same error message.

Thank you.

Hello Mandeep

Thank you for updating the details,

Request you to share the collector.log file from skyline collector

Check the date and time by running the command "date", some times even though the Time Zone is the same, time would not be accurate and would have changed.

Please provide your contact details on the following URL:

Hello Mandeep,

Collector logs are found at /var/log/skyline/collector.log.

Also share the contact number on the Smart Sheet form, so that we could contact you if we would have to initiate a webex session.
