Laptop Power runs out while a VM being moved from a NAS to host local storage !

We have a very basic VMware setup in our office with a single ESXi host  running vSphere essentials licensing. The host has a 1TB storage and we have a NAS connected to it. At the moment, we don't have vCenter installed.

We wanted to move a VM (with 400GB  total disk space) from NAS to ESXi local storage. We logged in to the ESXi host via a laptop which has vSphere Client installed. We powered off the VM, removed it from the inventory, moved the VM folder from NAS datastore to  host's local datastore. We have a very slow internet connectivity hence the VM moving process is going to take over 30 hours. There is a separate window been opened  to show VM moving progress.

Here is the doubt we have:

Since we have logged in via a laptop with vSphere Client application and there is a separate window for moving task's progress, will the moving task be stopped if we disconnect laptop or if the laptop gets powered off ? Can we continue the VM moving process from a different PC?

I think I would make all effort to ensure the machine running the vSphere-client remains running, as I'm not sure such a copy doesn't go via the client machine.

So do not use a procedure that does not allow a resume copy when it is interrupted.
Use a Linux VM that has ssh-connection to both the NAS as well as to the ESXi with the local storage.
Connect to the NAS via sshfs readonly.
Connect to the datastore via sshfs in writeable mode.
Use ddrescue to copy the flat.vmdks and make sure to create a copy.log.
With the copy.log you can then resume the copy in case it fails in the middle.
Yes - this is a quite ugly workaround - but it WILL WORK !
