VMware Workstation Pro 14 - Fails To Start Due To CPU Non-Support

Just installed VMware Workstation Pro 14.   It fails to start guest (either 32 or 64 bit Kali distro).  Attempted on Windows 10 Enterprise and Ubunutu 17.04.

No prior issues with same using any prior version.

Pop Up Box Error:

This host does not support "Intel EPT" hardware assisted MMU virtualization.

This host does not support virtualizing real mode. The Intel "VMX Unrestricted Guest" feature is necessary to run this virtual machine on an Intel processor.

     Module 'CPUIDEarly' power on failed.

Failed to start the virtual machine.

v14 should have been called v13 just because of all the bad luck the developers knew it would bring to so many loyal customers.  Then they could have quickly released v14 as the next paid version, which underneath the hood would have merely been v12 relabeled.  I came up with this frivolous bit of levity while uninstalling v14 and reinstalling v12 after reading all of the posts on this site and realizing there was no hope for getting v14 working on my perfectly good Intel i7 system.  v14 seems like VMware's attempt to duplicate the popularity of Windows 8.  Go figure 🙂

I am facing the issue with VMWare 14:-

"This host does not support "Intel EPT" hardware assisted MMU virtualization.

Module 'CPUIDEarly' power on failed.

Failed to start the virtual machine."

Can someone please share the download link for VMWare 12 .

Thanks for sharing this VMware 12 link.

I was able to install VMware on my desktop with "Core(TM)2 Duo CPU" using this. ( Since its Core Duo CPU cant use VM14 ).

However, am facing one issue with VM player12 .

I have installed RSA 8 using this VM on my desktop with "Core(TM)2 Duo CPU" .

Please note :- I have correctly chosen the RSA-VM ipadress that is available and is in the same subnet as my desktop.

In fact DESKTOP-IP and the RSA-VM-STATIC-IP, both are static IP addresses in the same domain.

What is not working :-

Now , Installation of RSA succeeds , and it prompts us to login to the url say https:/MYRSA-VM-STATIC-IP/

Issue am facing is that am not able to access this URL , It says

"The proxy could not connect to the destination in time. Please verify the site you are attempting to access and retry."

I have tried changing from bridged to NAT and vice versa .Even then https:/MYRSA-VM-STATIC-IP/ not accessible and also MYRSA-VM-STATIC-IP is not pingable .

What is working :-

I ma able to install RSA , and access https:/MYRSA-VM-STATIC-IP/ , on my laptop , but with VMware 14 ( my laptop has i5 ). But cant continue with this since my laptop has dynamic IP . Have to make it work on desktop.

Please suggest what change should I do so that the url is accessible https:/MYRSA-VM-STATIC-IP/

Hi,

Are you using bridged networking?

With all firewalls of can you ping from your host to the VM by using the IP address? edit: No you can't, you already mentioned that.

if in the same network like the other one, then:

a) verify the NIC is up and that you can connect to the internet (eg. from within the VM try to ping google.com, if you can't ping google.com, then try pinging 8.8.8.8)

b) make sure all firewalls are OFF while testing.

When you say:

https:/MYRSA-VM-STATIC-IP/

I hope you actually type the IP address instead of "MYRSA-VM-STATIC-IP" (I think you do, but since not 100% sure best to point out)

Also note that you need to use https://<ipnumber> instead of https:/<ipnumber>

If you only put in one forward slash then it is not a protocol and it won't work for sure.

In addition you might want to try to access to VM by using http instead of https.

For the rest.. I have no idea what "RSA" stands for besides the cryptography algorithm.. don't even know what kind of OS it is based on.

While I can give general tips, I can't troubleshoot it for you.

Charu1,

If you still have problems after following my suggestions then please open up another topic for this specific issue.

There's a lot of people on this thread and your current problem has nothing to do with their issues, but they all still get email notifications about it.

thanks,

I need both tpm2 support on my Xeon X5550. But tpm2 support is only available after version 14. Maybe anyone can check the source code of vmware player 12 & 14 and try to give a patch .... possible?
