Question :

I setup a Centos minimal installation, then ran a full clone which worked fine, except that the Hostname was not changed....is there a way to set the new hostname before the clone process runs?

No, you'll have to manually change the identity of the clone after it completes.

Thanks. I was hopeful that since during the clone setup it asked me for a new name. Based on your response then, it appears there is no upfront way to set the 'new' hostname.

Of course, one can do it after booting up the clone but it would be nice if workstation could pass the new name to the clone...I understand that each OS may be too different to make this realistic to manage.

So on Centos, I used the following command to change the hostname while logged in as the root user.

# hostnamectl set-hostname your-new-host

# shutdown -r

Workstation isn't vSphere, and if you were using vSphere and a Customization Spec, it would pass the hostname into the VM, but those are two totally separate products with separate use cases.

Thanks, yes I have used vmware esx with vSphere in the past. In my case I am just running vmware workstation pro on my windows machine to play around with virtual linux servers.
