ESXi 6.7 U1 and U2 install hang at bnxtroce.v00

I have ESXi 6.7 running on a server. I tried to boot the installation for 6.7 u1 and u2 from two different flash drives and both versions on both drives hang at bnxtroce.v00. There is no error message. The server still boots from the installed 6.7 fine. Why is it hanging, and how can I get around it?

I know this is a little old but I had the same issue and found that switching to UEFI mode in my server(s) BIOS corrected this error without having to modifying the installation at all.

What hardware are you running?

Adaptec 3405 RAID controller

MSI A88XM-E45 motherboard, BIOS V 25.5

AMD A8-7600 CPU

Broadcom BCM5721KFBG NIC

This system was running fine this morning until I decided to update it. I noticed that plain 6.7 didn't have bnxtroce.v00 in it's /tardisks directory, so it's new with the update?

Ok, so it's all unsupported hardware to begin with.

Actually the Broadcom NIC was supported when I got it for the version I had then for that reason, and it is listed as still supported. Same for the RAID controller. But I'm not surprised that at some point it wouldn't work, but if that point is a bugfix update and not a major version upgrade then it's a surprise. However, the Broadcom RoCE module hangs my computer when it loads even when the NIC isn't in the computer, so there's something about that module.

I have the same problem with 6.7 U1 and U2. The original 6.7 works . (there is no bnxtroce module there)

I have also tried to remove this module from the boot.cfg. The boot procedure is then OK but the bnxtroxe file is missing in the install afterwards.

I have a Supermicro Board X11SPL-F  with an Intel C621 Chipset  (Intel I210 Dual LAN with 1GbE)

regards

Oliver

I tried that with the same results. I used an iso customizing tool to remove the bnxtroce module. After that installation went fine.

I got the Dell R710 server and must to change the Boot mode from BIOS to UEFI.

After that install was completed without any problems.
