win7 and win8 guest does not reply ping request on vmnet custom (host-only) interface

I run a win 8 guest on vmware workstation pro 12 and i set as network connetion: vmnet2

On the guest I set the network adapter tcp/ipv4 properties to 192.168.192.4 static address

On my windows 10 host I set the network adapter "vmware network adapter vmnet2" property to 192.168.192.2 static address

The ping from my guest to my host works but from my host to my guest does not works.

"vnetsniffer /e VMnet2" on my host sees only the ping requests from my host towards my my guest: no replies

the same with win 7

What about the Windows Firewall settings on the guest OS? Can you confirm that the guest's firewall is configured to allow ICMP (ping) traffic?

Do not use the *.*.*.2 IP for a virtual adapter. That conflicts with the defaults.
Please post a screenshot of Virtual Network Editor

First, make sure 192.168.192.0 is the subnet of custom vmnet2.

Then, you can set the network adapter "vmware network adapter vmnet2" property to 192.168.192.1 and have a try

I had checked virtual network editor for the subnet of vmnet2 and it is: 192.168.192.0 so i setted the adres of my host "vmware network adapter vmnet2" to 192.168.192.1

but i could not pint to my guest win 8 (vmnet2) 192.168.192.4

I have tried host vmnet2 192.168.192.160 and guest (vmnet2) 192.168.192.251 but again I can ping from guest to host but not from host to guest.

I had attached my virtual network editor.

I need the vmnet2 interface connection because I use it in another appication which creates connections between windows vm's and simulated routers, but i do not use this application in this example.

I have also give it a try with 2 other addresses;

win8 guest: 192.168.192.251

win 10 host: 192.168.192.160

the same result: no ping success from host towards guest.

I have tried it on another PC in the same situation: win 10 host and win 8 guest on vmnet2, but the same result: no ping reply from guest towards host.

Are you sure that no firewalls affect your results ?

I have stopped my kaspersky internet security (which includes a firewall) and I have disabled the windows defender firewall (which starts after stopping kaspersky) but it did not affect the result.

but thanks for your suggestion.

Yes André,

Disabling the firewall on the win8 guest helps so the reason was indeed the firewalls.

Thanks.
