Hello,
I am trying to connect a LPT port on a windows XP guest.
On the host, i install a PCI card, and it is detected on LPT3
Then i install VMWare Player and add in the manager VMWarePlayer :
-Connect at Power On
-Use Physical parrelel port (i try auto detect or LPT3)
No warning when i start my XP guest
I cannot see my LPTport on XP Guest
Try to change the bios in XP guest. Of course when i enable Lpt Port, i can see a LPT1 port in XP guest but i think it is not the good LPT, cant do nothing with this LPT1...
How cab i map my LPT3 on the XP guest ?
Help !
Do not use "autodetect" for ports - make sure you specify the port correctly.
Also make sure to disable "Thinprint" - this feature will prevent the detection of ports.
> i can see a LPT1 port in XP guest but i think it is not the good LPT,
Did you check that ? - the first printer port inside a VM is expected to appear as LPT 1.
It maybe necessary to run WS as admin to be able to use parallel ports inside a guest.
Thanks for your response,
I have not Thinprint installed on the host.
Is there other application that could prevent detection ? (The OS host is Win10 v1809)
I set LPT3 int the manager, but no change
Need i enable LPT port in the bios of the Guest ?
because, if i have no LPT3 configured in the manager, LPT1 will always appears if enabled in the bios guest...
You must disable ThinPrint in the guest - edit the vmx-file to do that.
If you dont know how - attach the vmx-file to your next reply.
i try with another vm (win 10 pro) : same problem, no LPT appears in the guest.
Is there a solution ?
I noticed that your vmx-file does not have all the required parameters.
Look through the file and delete all lines starting with parallel*
Instead use this block:
parallel0.present = "true"
parallel0.startConnected = "true"
parallel0.autodetect = "false"
parallel0.fileType = "device"
parallel0.fileName = "LPT3"
Also keep in mind that using a parralel port may require that you launch Workstation via right click option "run as admin"
I try all recommandations.
Cant see my LPT port...
Can i map my LPT port manually?
