Horizon licensing question (which edition)

Hi,

I have a newbie question about VMWare Horizon licensing. Currently we have a Horizon 7.1 setup with following licensing info in the View Administrator:

pastedImage_0.png

The licensing (and the Horizon setup) is done by a VMWare partner which states we have a Horizon "Standard" License.

From what I've learned and read, a "standard" license only includes basic Desktop VDI. If you need published applications and RDSH, you need "advanced" license and for Instant Clones" you need "Enterprise" license.

With that information and the licensing info in the View Administrator I would say we have a "Enterprise" license?

- We use Linked Clone pools with server based OS as base image

- We use Terminal server (RDSH) for both full desktop sessions and published applications

- For now, we don't use Instant Clones, but I'm looking into it

I can't lookup the license in MyVMWare as I don't have that information, only the Partner has that. I also don't have the complete license key, only the first and last part are shown in the View Administrator (not included in the screenshot above).

We pay the partner each month based on the number of VDI, RDSH and published application sessions that are used each month. So it's a subscription based license.

I hope anyone can shed some light on it and help to clear out this?

Thanks a lot,

Michiel.

That is definitely a Horizon Enterprise license. I'm not as familiar with the VSPP licensing as I once was but I suspect that is what they are trying to use. Is this running on your own hardware or the partners hardware? At first glance I'd have concerns with if this is legitimate and any legal ramifications that could apply to your business.

Ben,

Horizon is running on hardware from the partner in their datacenter. We only pay a monthly fee which includes all the costs (resources, licensing, ...).

Any idea who we can contact to get the correct information (besides our Partner)?

Thanks,

Michiel

In that case I suspect they are using a VSPP or similar license where they are providing hosting and pay based on usage. You need to contact the partner and ask them these questions. It's possible they just entered the wrong license. I'd also advise upgrading, 7.7 is the latest and 7.1 has been out for 1.5 years.

You have to contact the partner. No way around it. They manage the purchasing and licensing from VMware. They would need to give you another key if you want those additional features.

TechGuy,

That's the question: according to the licensing info in the View Admin, I can use those features, but according to the partner, we only have standard edition features.

So, it's not that I need a key to unlock those features, it seems I already have them.
