Hi everyone,
I'm using VM Workstation 12 trying to run Windows as a guest OS (XP or 7).
I've tried looking for an option to set resolution to 1600x900 as it's the best windowed resolution for the 1080p monitor, however I am unable to see that option.
If I try to set it programmatically (with for Eg. QRes) it says that the resolution is not supported.
Is there any way to add this resolution to the VMWare configuration or force VMWare to support it?
Cheers,
Search the knowledgebase for custom monitor modes (I believe it is article 1003, but could be remembering incorrectly).
Sadly those instructions don't really work and don't really make sense.
In particular I can't seem to find the correct registry key.
it simply doesn't exist under a Guest Win 7 x64 installation. On my Guest Win XP it does but there are multiple locations all with "multiple subkeys"
Solved the issue:
1) Install VMWare Tools
2) View => Autosize => Autosize Guest
3) Drag the window to 1612x984 (which equates to 1600x900 guest or x+12 y+84)
4) View => Autosize => Center Guest
Can use a script engine like AutoHotKey to get precisely 1612x984 each time
Install vmware-tools, execute:
VMwareResolutionSet.exe 0 1 , 0 0 1600 900
