Auto Connect USB Device to Guest O/S

I am running a Win XP guest OS and have a USB device needed for a particular application. It's a USB to SERIAL adapter. All works fine, but the users have to go in and select REMOVEABLE DEVICES - CONNECT (DISCONNECT FROM HOST) when the vm starts up. Is there a way to make it do this automatically everytime the VM starts? I'm using VM Player.

Yes. On the "Virtual Machine" menu select "Virtual Machine Settings". Select "USB Controller" and check the box that says "Automatically connect new USB devices."

8 years later with Wokstation player 15 I have the same issue, After checking box "Automatically connect new USB device", it worked one time and since I have to connect them manually.
