Work In Progress view in vSphere Client?

We have been migrating our vSphere Web Client plugin to the vSphere Client and just realized that the vSphere Client doesn't seem to include the Work In Progress view.  At least we haven't been able to find it.  Does it include the notion of a Work In Progress task?  In the vSphere Web Client we have a wizard, that includes a longer run task, that we were able to minimize into the view and this allowed the user to proceed with other tasks and then restore the wizard at a later point.

Thank you,

Jesse

Hi Jesse,

The work-in-progress view is not present in any version of the vSphere Client. The wizards today are behaving similar to how they did in the Desktop client.

I don't know if there are plans to re-introduce the work-in-progress but I'd point out that one of the reasons for its existence - the slowness of loading a second tab with the whole vSphere Client in it - is no longer there since the HTML version is very fast.

I'll pass your question to product management - they may come with asks for more feedback in this thread.

Best,

Tony

Thank you.  Is there a list of features, such as the work-in-progress", that were available in the web client that aren't currently available or will never be re-implemented in the client?

Unfortunately I don't know of such document.

I asked the product management to follow up on this thread with more details.

Best,

Tony

Hi Jesse -

Thanks for reaching out to us. Work In Progress (WiP) was a workaround for longer wizards (i.e. too many pages in the wizard), and this WiP feature would introduce some performance concerns on the vSphere Web Client if many such wizards are minimized by the user(s). We did not implement WiP in vSphere Client (HTML5) as our goal is to solve the root of the problem which is to simplify such long wizards. Could you update us which are the wizards where you would use WiP to minimize them? This information would help us prioritize the effort of simplifying such wizards.

Thanks,

Abhijith

I also would like to see the Work In Progress feature to come to the HTML5 client. It can be useful for some vSAN wizards, such as creating a policy and quickstart.

Another feature I would like added is the Recent Objects pane. It was very useful in the Flash client to get back to where I was. I think it will still be very useful in the HTML5 client. I find myself bouncing around the same 5-8 objects some days.
