With Player 15.0.4 running under both Ubuntu 18.10 and 19.04, the problem with installing components was corrected by installing the "libncursesw5" Package:

shared libraries for terminal handling (wide character legacy version)

https://packages.ubuntu.com/cosmic/libncursesw5

https://packages.ubuntu.com/disco/libncursesw5

Under Ubuntu 18.04.x the "libncursesw5" appears to be installed by default, since is NOT considered "legacy" at the LTS Level!

shared libraries for terminal handling (wide character support)

https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic-updates/libncursesw5

NOTE: To compile player's modules under Ubuntu 19.04's 5.0.0 Kernel I used Mark Allman's patch:

https://medium.com/@allmanpc/vmware-workstation-player-15-0-3-and-linux-kernel-5-0-3-644bfb4df6a

UPDATE: With Player 15.1.0 the use of Mark Allman's patch is no longer required!

You could try installing the VMware Tools manually.

The latest available is 10.3.5. You can download from this link

https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?productId=742&downloadGroup=VMTOOLS1035

Check the release notes as well

https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Tools/10.3/rn/vmware-tools-1035-release-notes.html

Extract the windows.iso and mount the ISO as a virtual CD/DVD of the VM and initiate the setup.exe manually.

Thanks for your Links, they are much appreciated!

Although I had been able to copy the ISOs over from a Ubuntu 18.04.1 Installation (NOT knowing about the Download Links) and manually run setup.exe to install Tools.

Player 15.0.2 knows the Component's have not been installed successfully, therefore Player keeps prompting me to Download/Install each time I start a Client VM!

I don't have VMware Player 15.x on Linux, I have one on Windows.

On Windows, in Preferences, there is a "Check for software components as needed". Unchecking it should not check anymore during powerup (for all VMs).

Alternatively, you could try to downgrade to 10.3.2. The log that you attached it was attempting to install 10.3.2.
