Remove discovered virtual machine folder

Hello,

How do I remove the discovered virtual machines folder in the web client?  I don't want to use folders so I find the default combersome.  I wanted to make the web client look like the C client, but with that folder its always an extra step to get to the virtual machines.

Dan.

That folder will show up anytime you bring in a host that has virtual machines already on it.  It by default places them in that folder.

You can move the VM's up to the Datacenter level and then go to "All Vcenter actions" on the folder and choose remove from inventory.

Ok, that make sense now.  But when I move them into the Datacenter level, now I get an expandable section called (102) Virtual Machines, and when I expand it there is only one VM in there.

Yes, that is the expected behavior once it is over a certain amount of objects.  I am not a fan of that design myself. The only way to get the list is click on the object and view the machines in the right side of the pane.

I wouldn't complicate it so much.

Also "Just move the VM to the datacenter [root]" won't always be allowed.

I had a discovered vm and I couldn't move it out of that folder.

It's simple.

Power off VM

Right click VM>remove from inventory

right click discovered folder>remove from inventory

go to hosts and clusters and click on esx host with the vm

click "register a vm"

drill the folder and select the vmx file in question

click finish

power on vm

easy peasy lemon squeezy
