p2v - SLES 12.1 to vmware - kernel too old

Trying to convert SLES 12.1 physical machine to vmware and it fails at the end.

Taken from the log file:

-->                            description = "GrubInstaller::InstallGrub: /usr/lib/vmware-converter/installGrub.sh failed with return code: 127, and message: --> FATAL: kernel too old --> Error running vmware-updateGrub.sh through chroot into /mnt/p2v-src-root --> Command: chroot "/mnt/p2v-src-root" /vmware-updateGrub.sh "GRUB2"          "(hd0)" "(hd0,1)" /vmware-device.map "grub2-install" --> ", -->                            msg = "An error occurred during the conversion: 'GrubInstaller::InstallGrub: /usr/lib/vmware-converter/installGrub.sh failed with return code: 127, and message: --> FATAL: kernel too old --> Error running vmware-updateGrub.sh through chroot into /mnt/p2v-src-root --> Command: chroot "/mnt/p2v-src-root" /vmware-updateGrub.sh "GRUB2"          "(hd0)" "(hd0,1)" /vmware-device.map "grub2-install"

Source system is Suse Linux Enterprise Server 12.1 with kernel  3.12.74-60.64.48-default

Destination system is VMware ESXi-6.0.0-20160302001-standard

Converter is VMware vCenter Converter Standalone, 6.2.0 build-8466193

Any ideas on how to overcome this?

Thanks!

Unfortunately some combinations of kernel version and grub version produces this result. That's why we lists "supported OS".

There is no solution currently and you need to convert your Linux manually.

Do you happen to know where's the list of supported combinations? And which kernel is too old? On the source system?

It's about kernel of HelperVM and your grub version.

Thanks.

I see there's no SLES 12 on the list, only SLES 10 and 11.

SLES12 was released in 2014 while SP1 was end of 2015 so it is not that new...

Okay, thanks for the help. I appreciate it.
