It seems that the driver for a hardware device I have does not work on Windows 10 (yellow triangle beside the device in Device Manager). It works on Windows 7 though.
I though I could get it running by using a Win7 guest on Win10 host using VMware Player.
But it doesnt appear in the list of Removable Devices.
Am I right in thinking if the host OS cant get the driver to work properly, the guest will not be able to see the device either, and so there is no point it trying the above?
Is this device physically part of the host PC, or a USB connected device? If USB connected, then you should be able to disconnect it from the host and attach it to the guest, which can then recognize it and install the drivers for it.
It is a USB external device (its a samsung phone in download mode). It doesnt appear in the list of Removeable Devices. Thanks for the information, I will keep trying.
Hi,
If the Samsung phone is trying to connect via USB3 then you should know that USB3 support is not natively supported by Windows 7.
What you should do is make sure that the virtual hardware has USB3 mode enabled for the USB controller and then download the drivers from intel that are required to be able to use USB3 in your VM.
