VMware Workstation unrecoverable error: (svga) NOT_REACHED bora\mks\hostops\DX11\DX11BlendState.c:90

Hello,

I found a bug in VMware Workstation 15 (latest version), my setup is simple:

Windows XP x64 VM with 3d acceleration enabled. I need 3d acceleration because:

Im just running a Game called "Silkroad Online" in this VM.

Wheneve I teleport into a certain ingame town Workstation just crashes the VM ( see below screenshot ).

I tested following:

running same setup on Win 7 x64, Win 10 LTSB x64, running on a dedicated nvidia gpu and an intel graphics card on 2 different PC and Notebook, it always happens in this town.

I can reproduce this error and Im willing to build a VM for an VMware engineer, please get in touch with me.

I can also attach a .dmp, is this safe here in a open place?

I have got no support entitlement!

Hi, twlkom:

Really thanks for your support, i have downloaded the dmp and log files you attached in the post. However seems i do not have the access to delete it. I think you can remove it if you have the privilege.

This time i can also locate the folder you created on the ftp site, i will download it and try to reproduce it myself.  Really thanks again for reporting that bug.

Hi, twlkom:

Thanks for reporting that issue, would you please help to collect suppot bundle logs (Help--support--CollectSupportData...) and compress all the related file (VM, video, dmp and logs) into a zip file and upload it to below FTP site?  And let me know and file name.

Hi yanw,

thanks for your help! I uploaded a .zip with the content listed below its named: twlkom_workstation15_latest_vm_crash.zip MD5 hash: 83c44112fa1cfcaf2c2e1f9a69f4e4ee

the zip is around 5GB big and contains:

Windows XP PRO x64 Silkroad VM.zip ->

-Windows XP VM with 3d acceleration enabled and the game "silkroad online" pre-installed -

"silkroad online" connects to a private (not local) internet gameserver, the character already stands in the town

"alexandria" where the game VM always crashes (see video).

2018-12-18 11-21-00.mp4 ->

-the video where I show you how you can log into the pre-installed silkroad, to skip the intro video and get

right into the login window of the game just click into the game window.

I also show you in this video how it looks when it crashes

vmsupport-2018-12-18-10-58.zip ->

-Support Bundle

vmware-vmx-3.dmp ->

-dump file that the vm creates after it crashes

vmware-2.log ->

-vm logfile

I can also give you a session in Teamviewer if you cant reproduce the error on your system with the vm, my Timezone is Berlin/Europe.

Hi, twlkom:

Sorry for the late response, i searched "twlkom_workstation15_latest_vm_crash.zip" in the ftp server, however the result shows nothing. So i want to confirm that have you put the zip file into any folder?

In addition, would you please upload  "vmware-vmx-3.dmp" and "vmware.log" directly in the community? i think these are the most useful information for developer.

Hello yanw,

I forgot to create a folder, I created the folder: twlkom_workstation15_latest_vm_crash and reuploaded into it: twlkom_workstation15_latest_vm_crash.zip

I also attached the .dmp and .log files in a .zip please delete it from my post if possible after you downloaded it.

hi yanw,

I found out today that the private server I was using in the VM to reproduce this issue closed, I built another VM where you should be able to reproduce this issue, I uploaded it into the folder: Windows_XP_PRO_x64_Silkroad_NEW and named it: Windows_XP_PRO_x64_Silkroad_NEW.zip MD5: af38696b286e2d08900db043948dd695

The Password changed, the new one is on the Desktop in the login.txt, you can still use the instruction Video from the other .zip to get into the Game.

thanks!

I have created a 32bit Windows 10 pro (1809) VM (on a Windows 10 1809 64 bit machine with an i7 3770K and Nvidia 1080ti.)

I'm getting the exact same error message when trying to run a legacy 32 bit game (Activision Anthology Remix).

I'd also be willing to upload any logs etc that you may need to investigate this bug.

Hi twlkom,

The  uploaded VM is not available from the ftp site now. I know it's not good, but could u kindly help to upload again? The VM file is important for me to verify the bug fix in-house. Thanks!

Best Regards

Yan

Has there been any fix for this issue? I am facing the exact same error running a game inside a Windows 7 VM.
