Remote Collector connection to vCenter

Hi All,

Please forgive my ignorance but I'm new to vROps and have scoured the internet and YouTube looking for an answer to my question with no luck.

First off I have deployed the Master Collector with no problems and added the vCenter adapters for other vCenters I want to collect data from.  I have a site we manage 800 miles away and so based on latency of greater than 5ms I understand that I need to use a remote collector.  I deployed a remote collector in that distant vCenter and it came online with no problems.  The master collector sees the remote collector but the remote collector isn't sending any data because I can't seem to figure out how I tell the remote collector the name of the remote vCenter and the credentials to use so it can pull the data and send back to the Master.

Am I misunderstanding how the remote collectors work?  I assumed that I would be able to configure it in a similar manner to how I setup the other vCenters that are in the same datacenter as the Master node.

Any insight would be very much appreciated!!

Thanks!!

In the main vROps UI <https://vropsFQDN/ui>, you can specify which vCenter Server the collector is responsible for.

Go to Administration > Solutions , select the VMware vSphere solution and click the Configure icon at the top of the screen. This will pop-up the vCenter servers being monitored by vROps.

Expand the Advanced Settings section, and from the drop-down menu of Collectors/Groups, select the new vROps Remote Collector.

Also check if the required ports are open for communication.

Hi Rick,

Thanks so much for your reply.  After beating my head against the wall for a few more hours we went into the advanced settings and saw the collector group I created and used that for the remote site and it started collecting as expected.  I can't say it trying to figure this one out was a wasted effort since I found a bunch of other useful pieces of vROps that I wasn't aware of.

Thanks again for your help!

Chris
