yum install open-vm-tools. You would also benefit from reading the article in my signature.

Download VMware tools for linux and upload linux.iso(which is somewhere in the downloaded iso) to a datastore which relevant VM can access.

Then Edit settings of VM and attach iso, click connected and ok.

Get into Centos operating system mount cdrom and remove open-vm tools with rpm -e ..

Then start applying linux instructions for vm-tools install.

Thanks.

Except open-vm-tools is recommended for RHEL7 and downstream variants, not tar tools. Check the HCL.

Check if the following VMware KB article helps:

I did "yum install open-vm-tools" and reboot the system. After it, the ESXi tell me "VMware Tools:  Installed and running" but I can't send keys!!!

Doesn't look like there is a fix for this?

I just installed vSphere 6.7.0 Update 2 (Build 13006603 on a 2013 Mac Pro (MacPro6,1) that meets VMware requirements for this version of ESXi.

I'm able to upload VMware virtual machines to it, pretty nifty. In this case the virtual machine is macOS Mojave 10.14.3, holding off on 10.14.5 for various reasons.

When I connect to the vSphere server, it complains that the virtual machine's VMware Tools are out of date:

When I try to update VMware Tools through VMware Fusion 11.0.3 (latest version), it complains too:

Here are the specs, might need to right-click > show image in new tab to enlarge it:

First time setting up ESXi 6.7U2, having played around with a much older version some years ago.

What am I missing, how do I get VMware Tools updated on the virtual machines that I upload to vSphere?

TIA,

Don
