where to download vmware player older version

Hello,

I'm running Linux Mint 17.1 for a while with VmWare Player 7.1.6. I just opgraded to Linux Mint 19. I tryed to install a new vmware player (version 15) but it does not support my cpu. An older version (12) does install, but does not start. If I start it in terminal then I have an error indicating that soms .so needs to be renamed, but I cannot since the name where it (according to the message) should rename to already exists.

So I think I have to find older versions. Since all my VM's are in version 7.1.6 I think that's the preferred version to install?

But I cannot find it.

Can someone help me solve this problem?

Thank you, Wilfried

Starting with version 14, certain generations/microarchitectures of CPUs from both Intel and AMD will no longer work. With Intel, version 14/15 now requires at least a CPU from the Westmere microarchitecture (circa 2010).

Downloading an older version of Player is not likely going to solve the problem as chances are the problem you face with version 12.5.x is the compatibility with the Linux kernel version of Linux Mint 19. If I am not mistaken, version 12.5.5 supports kernel 4.9.

With that in mind, look at this GitHub repository for the corresponding patches required for VMware version 12.5.9 and the kernel version that you have.

Thank you. Then I have to wait for kernel upgrade to 4.9. Linux Mint 19.1 uses kernel 4.15 and Linux Mint 17 uses kernel 3.13 (wich is working).

I don't know what you mean by "wait for upgrade to 4.9".

Kernel 4.9 is older than 4.15. The 12.5.x version is no longer supported by VMware and will not likely have any updates to support newer kernels such as 4.15.

You should try to apply this patch assuming you installed 12.5.9 version of Player.

If you insist on trying VMware Player 7 (which is even older) here is the link to download, bit it is also unlikely to work with the newer 4.15 kernel.
