    ESXI 6.5 - Need help

    xjames Novice

I have a free esxi 6.5 that I am evaluating for three months now. I am receiving several warning logs for vmotion, FT, and others. Unfortunately, I do not have vcenter even vsphere client. Would there be a way to disable this? I did not configure this to be enabled.

      Thank you

Are you using the evaluation version (no license key) or the free version (free license key)? When you say:

I am receiving several warning logs for vmotion, FT, and others.

what exactly do you mean and are seeing? Screenshots help.

Since I am still evaluating it, I am using free license for now.

Yep, I am seeing lots of logs from about vMotion, FT, and other staff. I don't know why I am getting it but I dont have vCenter.

I am thinking maybe because the server is outdated. I have not patch the host yet to the most recent updates and I have not update driver for the Raid controller. Does the patches cumulative? I have downloaded 5 image profile, should I just install the most recent one?

            Please help.

A little confused... I have both of this

              lsi.jpg

              megaraid.jpg

But I am using this. Could this be one of the issues I am having? Should I replace it with megaraid-sas

                Greetings,

the messages regarding VMotion and FT are caused by some other machines on your network that connect to the VMotion and FT ports of your host without speaking the necessary protocols. So these are no other ESXi hosts, but machines that probably run some port scanning software. If you don't know about these machines you should be concerned, because this could be malicious activity.

I hope you do not have your host directly connected to the Internet. If yes then malicious port scanning can come from anywhere in the world, and you should immediately change that.

However, these incorrect connection attempts should not cause any immediate harm or system instability for now.

The storage issues though might be cause by an outdated driver or a defective controller or hard disk. Try to update the system first. ESXi patch bundles are cumulative, so you just need to apply the latest one. You can find extensive information about patching stand alone ESXi hosts here: https://esxi-patches.v-front.de

                  Thanks Peetz for your reply.

My infrastructure is on a hosted service site, this is how they set up their hosted server.... This is probably why I keep seeing a bunch of users trying to connect to ssh.  If that's the cause of this malicious activities then I will not put the esxi host on the internet anymore, I will let you know when those warnings will still appear again.

About the updates, I have installed a couple of patches already because I thought the updates are not cumulative. I might just be going to use the most recent one then.

Okay so I have updated the ESXi 6.5 to the most recent version but I am still having the same issues.

I have not updated the raid controller yet and I do not know if I should use lsi-mr3 or megaraid? Please help

The most recent driver came from the ESXi 6.5 installer when I installed it.ESXI6_7.jpg

However, this is what showed up in this Broadcom/AVAGO website MegaRAID SAS 9271-4i

I am kind of confused which one should I use?

                      7.702 or 7.703?

And should I use native lsi-mr3 or megaraid?

Ok so I megaraid-sas but I am still having issues with the raid controller.

I am suspecting the driver version. I found out that the 7.703 version reflects on AVAGO Megaraid "73XX" with 12gbps SAS. However, the one that I am using right now is AVAGO Megaraid 7241-4i and when I search for the specs, it only has 6gbps. Should I use this instead?

                        Does anyone want to help?
