TL:DR: "This is currently a known issue, there is an internal bug already logged for this behavior."
I'd consider this a bug, and suggest that you open a support case for this.

I am also seeing this behaviour after upgrading ESXi to 6.7U1

Just a quick update. The issue seems to be fixed with the latest host update (v6.5 Build 10884925).
Host which already were in Maintenance Mode, remained in this state after remediation.

I doubt it's fixed with the update a.p. is mentioning in his reply. First of all this update is for 6.5 and not for 6.7 and secondly in the release note they only speak about host stay in maintenance after applying a host profile.
I have the same issue with a customers 6.7 environment. It has been updated last friday to the latest version and I still have this issue. Any update on a new patch soon?
