Better to present drive through vSphere or direct ISCSi?

A little bit of a NOOB looking for best practice.

I have ESXi vShpere 6.5 U2 installed.  I want to share a pretty large drive ( < 4 TB) across the organization.  I have a WIN 2012 VM configured, which I plan on using to do the sharing.

Should I present this 'to be shared' drive to my WIN 2012 VM through vShpere as an added disk drive or should I use the ISCSi initiator inside my WIN 2012 box to connect to FreeNAS?

Thanks!

PS - I was told that presenting a drive through vShpere was a problem for drives 2 TB or larger.  Is this also true?
