USB devices not able to connect to VM fusion since update to 11 pro and mac mojave

Hi guys,

   i updated the macos from high sierra to mojave the latest version

   uninstalled the vm fusion 10 pro and installed the 11 pro

i found the usb devices cannot connect to virtual system and i have it set to ask which device to connect to but this window does not appear since i updated the vm fusion and macos.

   the usb devices now are directly connected to macos without any waring or ask as before

   i've selected "allow" for VM fusion in macos system preferences,security and privacy settings

does anyone have the same problem and how to deal with it?

I encountered the same thing earlier today, after upgrading to Fusion Pro V11 and Mojave.
In the end, it all boiled down to proactively going to Settings > Security & Privacy  and clicking the "Allow" button.  I had to explicitly go there and look for it (I wasn't being prompted to).
After reading these two threads, I got things working as expected;

Same here - Mac OS Mojave, VMware Fusion Professional Version 11.0.0 (10120384) - USB devices not able to connect to VMs. They are immediately connected to the host (Mac).

Good afternoon.

I have the same situation and question, and went through all the steps mentioned. (Reinstalling allowing in Mac pref. etc)

After I open my Windows 10 guest , I see in Fusion on the Mac that I can Update VMWare tools.

In the guest a DVD is mounted. From here I run the updater, however I do not come further then "The feature is on a network device that is unavailable".

The path indicated is C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\{1F040F4A-D0CE-4855-9ADE-A255D9DFCAF6}~setup\

Also I cannot find the mentioned file, only a file C:\Users\henk\AppData\Local\Temp\{748D3A12-9B82-4B08-A0FF-CFDE83612E87}~setup

Selecting that file gives me the message: "not a valid installation package"

I have played around with authorisations to no avail.

Can you suggest what to do?

PS: My mac drives are accessible via VMware tools.

PPSS: Before the upgrade to Fusion 11 and Mojave it worked

I had all the same issues and tried all the above steps without VMware finding the USB drive. Just updated to Fusion 11 and Mojave also. After trying everything I figured I'd try plugging in an old external DVD into the Mac USB and bang, all USB devices popped up in VMware USB settings. Seems crazy but it works. Hope this helps others. If anything, it's another sign for hope...

Hi All,

Seems like a lot of you are having the same issue.

Cause: For any USB to pass-through from Host to Guest, the VMware-USB arbitration service has to run. I believe that all of you who are having this issue, if you open activity monitor-search VMware, (make sure you have selected All Processes from View) , this service is not running. It seems that it has been blocked by Mac OS.

Resolution:

Please try below steps now:

1. Shutdown the VM.
2. Note your VMware Fusion License Key.
3. Quit VMware Fusion.
4. Download App cleaner for Mac (Link Below).

   https://freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/

    5.Uninstall Fusion.  (Using App Cleaner)

    6. If you already don't have the .dmg for VMware Fusion 11, download it from here. Download VMware Fusion | VMware

    7. Before installing Fusion, make sure you eject VMware Fusion Mounted image (Grey colour image of VMware Fusion) from Desktop(if there) and run quarantine, use below commands:

  Open Terminal.

a.  xattr -l  <drag and drop the .dmg file here>

Output of this command could list out a possible quarantine, possibly Chrome or Safari(or any other browser opened, please close those browser/s)

  It would be similar to com.apple.quarantine <quarantine name>

    b. xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine <drag and drop the .dmg file here>

    Run step 'a' again. Now there shouldn't be any quarantine, if still there, please follow step a and b unless you don't see any quarantine. (If you don't have the quarantine, then you shouldn't see any com.apple.quarantine message).

8.Install Fusion normally.

9.Once installed, Quit VMware Fusion.

10.Click on Apple logo on the top left of the Mac screen -> System Preferences -> Security and Privacy ->General>See if you get any messages, "System Software from VMware is being blocked" if yes, please click on Allow.

11.Re-launch Fusion.

12 Restart your virtual machine.

13 Unplug and replug your USB device.

14. Your issue should now be resolved.

No clue how you ever figured that out, but you just saved my bacon.  I drove 350 miles to configure a new site and had only my macbook pro with USB-C.  I couldn't get the serial adapter to work with Mac or to show up in Windows until your post.  Solved it perfectly!  #Hero

Still can't get this working, I have a Samsung 860 QVO 1TB drive, Windows laptop sees it on USB 3 Type C, Mac with Mojave sees it on USB Type C but the minute I plug into a fusion 11.0.2 with Win 10 Pro 64 it makes the found then lost sound several times then tells me the device has been stopped due to code 43 problems.

I have tried all the suggested fixes to no avail.

I just want to have an external SSD to boot Windows 10 on for specific tasks - possibly even the odd game or two!

I am using Macbook Pro. OS is MacOS Catalina Version 10.15. After I upgrade to this OS version. My previous VM fusion doesn't work. So I start to use VMware Fusion 11.5.

When I just update to VMware Fusion 11.5. I can't detect any USB3.0 device. After I tried all solution which you guys shared in this poster. I get some USB3.0 device detect. Thank you all so much!  But I work with USB3.0 camera which get RAW video output quite often. When I switch the camera from webcam to RAW video output in VMware library. VMware Fusion always run camera a few frame and quit automatically (also disappear from USB3.0 device list).  I am a little bit confuse. Does VMware Fusion 11.5 doesn't support RAW camera anymore?

All these cleanup steps weren't necessary for me.

The key here is to get Fusion to prompt in Security and Privacy. I was able to do that by simply having that setting open and booting my Windows VM.

Deleting the Fusion and reinstalling was enough after that to get USB working again.

I did an upgrade from Fusion10 to 11.5 after I had upgraded to Mojave.

Sadly for me it didn't work in Catalina with VMWare 11.5.0.  However, I am on the developer version now at 10.15.1 Beta (19B77a) so maybe that's the problem. This on a 2019 iMac 5K.

In Windows 10 the 'PC VM' does know the USB is connected in the Control Panel Device Manager and the Windows audio splash occurs when a disk is attached or unattached as per normal, so the drivers are working but the disk never shows in the File Explorer.  Nor does a utility such as MiniTools Partition Wizard see the attached USB drive.  Vey strange!

Dear All,

I upraded from Fusion 10 to 11 while still having Mojave, and everything was fine, and I enjoyed the new dark Depeche-Mode-like design.

THEN I "upgraded" to Catalina and from this fatal moment on I could no longer connect to external USB devices.

They are shown in the list of available devices, I can establish a certain kind of connection, but then Windows 10 immediately starts ringing a noisy bell and the Windows device manager is indicating a kind of a USB 3.0 malfunction.

However, this all with VMware-USB arbitration service running.

Today (December 11) Apple has offered macOS 10.15.2, but nothing has improved.

Also, upgrading from Fusion 11.5.0 to Fusion 11.5.1 did not really improve the situation, it rather made it worse, since now the mouse pointer started to behave irregularly so that after a few minutes I repentantly reverted to 11.5.0.

For me, the only viable way to circumvent this was to parallelly install Mojave, an exercise which is fortunately easy with APFS, and to run a copy of Windows on a Mojave-based installation of Fusion 11.5.0.

Unfortunately, I cannot go back to Mojave totally (I wish I could), since meanwhile I have migrated my iTunes music library to the new music database format and once having done so, nothing in the world could induce me to do it again in the other direction.

So, I have to live now with Catalina and with workarounds in order to iron out its worst blunders.
