How can I give a Network Adapter a meaningful name in VMware Workstation?

Hi,

How can I give a Network Adapter a meaningful name?

I can't believe that you can't add and change the name of a network adaptor from it default.

I would like to re-name them to something like Dev1, Production1 etc....

Do you know of a way to do this?

Thanks

Hi There,

Pretty easy.

Though you can't rename the default three Network Adapters(VMnet0, VMnet1 and VMnet8), rest adapter can be renamed.

Here is how:

1. Launch VMware Workstation.

2. Go to Edit-Virtual Network Editor-Change Settings-Add Network Adapter(Let's say you name it VMnet2).

3. Select the required configuration and voila, you can rename it as well. See attached screen shot.

Hi FedEx-20,

Thanks for that but that is just renaming the VMNet and not the NIC, plus each NIC would have the same name that way.

I mean the adapter name for example see the screenshot

Hi,

Thanks for the response, but I don't think that would be possible, you could add a Network Adapter and in the Summary field, you can know whether its PROD, QA or Dev.

They need to add this feature.

For example they should make the end of the name editable. i.e

Network Adapter 1 xxxxxx

Network Adapter 2 xxxxxx

Thanks

Yeah!, If that gets added, it would be awesome.
