Storage I/O Control

Hello guys,

we are planning to enable SIOC at one of our customers site

The documentation says that SIOC is not supported on datastores with multiple extents.

does that means datastores with multiple LUNs ? so if i have a datastore created from one LUN of 2TB then i increased the datastores using another LUN of 2 TB, SIOC is not supported , right?

thank you

That is correct, each LUN is an extent.  Prior to VMFS5 there was a 2 TB limit, but since then I think it is easier administratively if each datastore is one extent/LUN.

Hi

Storage I/O Control does not support datastores with multiple extents.

You never want to have more than a 1:1 ratio of LUN per VMFS datastore. Even spanning a single VMFS datastore across multiple extents is to be avoided.
