View client - which version is connected ?

Hi,

I would like to know, if there is a possibility ty show in web View Administrator GUI, which version of View Client is connected. Or any other way.

We will be doing updates to View 7.6/Client 4.9 and I am trying not to leave some old clients on computers.

I tried to search the internet but no luck so far.

Thanks.

Hey,

I don't think this info is native available in the Admin Console.

You could try using the Horizon Toolbox, it doesn't support 7.6 explicitly but you might have some luck there.

Horizon Toolbox

This has some clients statistics including the version, if I remember correctly.

I found the the Client version reporting in the Horizon Toolbox was hit or miss. Your best bet is to log the Client version which is stored in the registry while the user is connected.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Volatile Environment\1\ViewClient_Client_Version]

Hi, thanks for the hint.

I ran into a problem. I tested it on View Server 7.3.1 and in the exported reg there is no "ViewClient_Client_Version" info.

BUT, on testing View Server 7.6.0., there is "ViewClient_Client_Version"="4.9.0-9539668" info.

Is it possible that older versions of View Server does not supply the Client_Version info ?

Or, do I need to update the Client to 4.9 to get the info from the server ?

Now we have 7.3.1 Server and 4.6 Clients. Planning to update to 7.6 Server and 4.9 Clients.

Thanks a lot..

Jakub

One more find. Looks like the client, which was not reporting the Client_Version, had version 4.2. I will try to update it and report back...

On client which had 4.6.1 the report was OK in the exported .reg file.

Thanks again, hunt continues Smiley Happy

The communication is direct from the Horizon Client to the Horizon Agent so I don't believe the Connection Server will have any impact. I know that zero/thin clients won't populate the information so is it possible that one of those was connected?

Hi,

the problem is probably elswhere. Looks like the older client versions did not send the client_version tag at all.

I know that version 4.6.1 and 4.9.0 sends this info, as I can see it in the exported .reg file from the virtual desktop.

I ran into another problem while upgrading our clients. On full Win7SP1 and Win10 it was OK, but I am unable to update Win7 Embedded Standard. Any idea if the Win7Embedded support was dropped ? I will probably make new topic regarding this.... as we try to update our Samsung TC241W thin clients .. I know they are old Smiley Sad

Thanks anyway.

OK, one more find. I tested clients from version 4.3.0 up and here is the result:

4.3.0 - not sending client_version info

4.4.0 - not sending client_version info

4.5.0 - not sending client_version info

4.6.0 - sending client_version info (and probably all following versions, I know that 4.6.1 does)

all tested against server version 7.6 and desktop with 7.6 agent.
