We have VMware ESXi on Dell VRTX blade. It has 8 external port and 16 internal port (4 port * 1 blade). We have connected cables as per below,
External port 1 - VLAN 10 (MGMT / vMotion)
External port 2 - VLAN 20 (Backup)
External port 3 - Trunk port
External port 4 - Trunk Port
External port 5 - VLAN 10 (MGMT / vMotion)
External port 6 - VLAN 20 (Backup)
External port 7 - Trunk port
External port 8 - Trunk Port
Can anyone please let me know how the mapping of external port is happening with internal port at the ESXi level. We can see 4 NIC adaper at each of the ESXi console. Not sure, how they are communicating/mapping with external switch.

Correct. You can shutdown a port and see on esxi which vmnic have "down " status too.
If you work with the GUI be sure that you open it in "advanced" mode.
Just think about a normal pSwitch with 24 ports and you are trying to connect 4 hosts with 4 nics each. There is exactly no difference.
IF you have other switches around you will setup a 2 or 4 way trunk/portchannel for connection the vrtx switch to one of your others.
I have 6-8 VRTX in the field. We prefer the 10G switch in combination with 10G nics on the blades in combination with nPAR, So we can use fast vMotion and usable FT within the VRTX.

Thanks, i have 8 port 1 GB switch module as external connection. In the blade, i can see 4 NIC card.
So first 4 Physical port --> 4 NIC on first blade
and second 4 Physical port -->4 NIC on second blade

I have configure the ext port -1 as access port with VLAN 10, also configure the internal port 1/1 (Blade-1) and Internal port 2/1 (Blade-2) with same access VLAN. i have connected the cable to only ext port-1 but still I am able to connect to both the ESXI MGMT IP.....
Does it mean that, Ext port 1 is sharing/communicating with Blade-1 and Blade-2 internal port-1 ?
Sorry, forgot to mention, i have bring down one ext port from switch GUI, However, all the internal ports on the ESXI were still showing up.

Again, please think about a normal 24 port switch that sits on your desk. For sure can a device communicate from port 1 to port 24 as long VLAN and IPs are right. Its a switch that will forward packets.
Your esx is not connected to gi0/x . So bring down gi1/1 and you will see that vmnic0 on first blade goes down as well.

Please find attached port i have.
I understand, it works like any other L2 switch.
Right ow below ports are configured and connected.
External port 1 - VLAN 10 (MGMT / vMotion)
External port 2 - VLAN 20 (Backup)
External port 3 - Trunk port
External port 4 - Trunk Port
As soon as, i connect any cable on port 5 to 8, whole network is going down. Am i missing any config on the switch or this is not supported ?
